The
island of Praslin is famous for its tranquil atmosphere,
fabulous unspoilt beaches and the Vallée de Mai.
It is also the home of the extraordinary "Coco de
Mer", or double coconut
An
island with a rich history...
Praslin
is an island with a rich history and fascinating legends.
It was discovered in 1744 by Lazare Picault. At that time,
it was used as a hideaway by pirates and Arab merchants.
The
sea offers a breathtaking spectacle of about 800 species
of brightly coloured fish swimming among coral reefs
and sea shells!
Tropical
forests and dream beaches
Most
of Praslin, which has an area of 44 sq.m., is covered
in tropical forest. Flora and fauna thrive together in
the heart of the Vallee de Mai, in a harmony of vanilla
plants, the famous "coco de mer" and some of
the rarest birds.
In Praslin, you will find very comfortable hotels as well
as various possibilities for renting bungalows. Praslin
is a convenient starting point for visiting the neighbouring
islands (opposite, the schooner which sails between Praslin
and La Digue several times a day).
Nature lovers will be delighted by Praslin, especially
the Vallee de Mai, an enchanting nature reserve. The famous
"coco de mer" with their suggestive shapes grow
in profusion here.
They are, however, a protected species...
Enjoy your stay in Praslin by relaxing on its warm beaches
of fine sand, in the shade of coconut trees, listening
to the gentle murmur of the sea and the gay chirping of
birds. The most effective antidote to stress!
